Economics and Mathematics are complementary disciplines. Indeed, much of current economic theory is expressed in terms of mathematical models, and most branches of economics use mathematical, statistical and computational concepts extensively. Also, many advances in mathematics have been motivated by problems from economics.
This new program is jointly offered by the Faculty of Mathematics and the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts.
The Mathematical Economics program is desiged to be excellent preparation for graduate school either in economics or various areas of mathematics and statisitcs. Students with a strong interest in economics and economic theory will find this program very rewarding.
The Mathematical Economics program is a second-entry program. It is recomended that students apply to the Math/Business Administration admission category. Students can then select Mathematical Economics in second year. Admission to the program is automatic for any Math/Business student in good academic standing.
